My mission is to empower families impacted by adoption in any capacity to join forces, heal, and support one another. I hope to bring awareness to the complexities of adoption and the effects it has on families through my writing.
My Story

I know adoption. My father was adopted. I was adopted by my mother’s second husband. And at 16, I lost my firstborn son to adoption after others convinced me it was the “right thing to do.”
Two years later, I married the father of the child I gave up. After struggling with infertility for 8 years we had two beautiful children, a son and daughter, with the help of IVF.
Our marriage was a roller coaster ride, but I stayed loyal to my family, enduring my husband’s debilitating relationship with alcohol and prescription drugs.
In 2004 I found out that my husband had fathered a child with another woman.
I was able to practice what I preached. LOVE ONE ANOTHER and “ADOPT” THE MOTHER. I did the unexpected and opened my heart and home to this child and her mother, enabling a relationship between all the siblings.
My dream to create a community for communal living where single parents can come together for strength and support was inspired by my life experience.

I reunited with my son
I reunited with my son
In December 2005, I reunited with my son Kai. Soon after, he left on a mission to Mexico, triggering feelings of loss once again.
I dove into blogging, using writing as a tool to bring awareness to the challenges of adoption. Not long after, I wrote the first book, Life Goes On, published in 2009. At the same time, book two, Letters to My Missionary, was unfolding during Kai’s absence. Upon Kai’s return from his mission in 2011, I began writing my third book, Mothers of Loss, after joining an email group with other mothers also dealing with the rejection that came with reunion.
After 23 years of marriage, I made the decision to leave my husband. I fled to Maui in 2012, where I ultimately found peace in my life and healed from all the loss I had experienced. My early experiences in Maui led me to write my final book, Healing at the Harbor.
